Pilgrim’s Rest
The charming and picturesque village of Pilgrim’s Rest is known as the first economical goldfield in South Africa. Gold was discovered in the Pilgrim’s Creek in 1973 and the area was soon flooded with optimistic fortune hunters. Set in a lush valley, the entire village is now a living museum with beautifully restored homes and shops. The Greater Escarpment region offers a wide range of tourist related activities within easy reach of Pilgrim's Rest. Scenic drives and walks throughout the area, waterfalls, birdwatching, along with good restaurants make Pilgrim's Rest an ideal point to explore the many wonderful attractions nearby.

Kruger National Park
The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, this national park of nearly 2 million hectares, is unrivalled in the diversity of its wildlife and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Truly the flagship of the South African national parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.

Echo Caves
Located in the Blyde River Canyon, the Echo Caves are so named because of the sound produced when the rock formations are struck. Discovered in the 1920’s after the owner of the farm went in search of some missing cattle, the Caves are some of the oldest caves in the world and are declared a Historical Monument. One of the rooms in the caves has a height of 60 metres! The Caves were opened to the public in 1924, and guided tours are available. Relics from the Stone Age have been found inside the caves and are on display nearby.

Blyde River Canyon
The most spectacular stretch of the Panorama Route is the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon of its kind in the world. As well as home to spectacular animal and plant-life, the canyon boasts some of the best views in the country. From many well-positioned vantage points one has a view of the 33 kilometre-long gorge, which starts at "Bourke's Luck Potholes" and ends at the "Three Rondavels". The Potholes are very impressive rock formations that were shaped millions of years ago by erosion. The bizarre swirl holes developed when the once rapid river carried masses of sand and debris.

Dullstroom
Also located on the Panorama Route, halfway between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park is the scenic destination of Dullstroom. Known for offering some of the best fly fishing in the country, Dullstroom also boasts a large number of other outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching and horse riding. A recent addition to the tourist trade is a tour atop a London Double Decker Bus! The bus takes you through the scenic village and to the spectacular waterfalls in the north.
